1.0 Cat’s Claw
 
Cat’s Claw is native vine of Peru, which can be found in areas of high altitude, winding itself around trees. The medicinal form of Cat’s Claw is derived from the bark and the root of the plant. There are two species of cat’s claw commonly used for medicinal purposes…
  • Uncaria guianenses (common in Europe);
  • Uncaria tomentosa (common in the US and Canada).
Cat’s claw is available in dry powder, tea, tincture and supplement form.
2.0 Health Benefits, a partial list…
  • Allergies (environmental) from hay fever;
  • Alzheimer’s (canine);
  • Asthma;
  • Arthritis…
  • Osteoarthritis (caused by aging joints, injury, obesity);
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (chronic inflammation – occurs in matching joints on both sides of the body, can also effect blood, eyes, lungs, heart and/or nerves).
  • Chronic fatigue;
  • Digestive System disorders – i.e.
  • Colitis;
  • Gastritis;
  • Stomach ulcers;
  • Leaky Bowel Syndrome;
  • Cancer (particularly urinary tract cancer);
  • Cleansing of the kidneys;
  • Parasites;
  • Viral infections
  • Wound Healing.
3.0 Cautions…
  • If your dog or cat has low blood pressure the use of Cat’s Claw may further lower blood pressure;
  • If your dog or cat has leukemia do not give him/her Cat’s Claw;
  • If your dog or cat has lupus, do not give him/her Cat’s Claw;
  • Stop giving Cat’s Claw two (2) weeks prior to a scheduled surgery
4.0 Side Effects…

  • Cat’s Claw may lower blood pressure. 

5.0 Drug Interactions…

  • Medications changed by the liver;
  • Medications for high blood pressure;
  • Medications that decrease the immune system (i.e. corticosteroid medicines, cyclosporine, prednisone, etc.) as Cat’s Claw is an immune system booster and contains natural cortisone.
