Dog and Puppy Behaviour Modification Training

If your puppy or dog is starting to exhibit signs of stress, insecurity and anxiety you and your canine require assistance as soon as possible. Insecure, anxious behavior will escalate if not addressed properly. Insecure, anxious behavior can develop at any age  and may be seen in early puppy-hood to teenage or adult dogs.

Insecure anxious behavior may be triggered by past environmental influences, a sudden event or  develop overtime when a puppy or dog is not getting the guidance needed to instill a sense of ‘normal’. You can read more about factors that influence dog behavior here. Utilization of inappropriate training methods can be a contributing factor to the development and increasing intensity of unhealthy behavior. In the absence of fair and respectful guidance the puppy or dog is starting to escalate to higher levels of excitement on a regular basis in situations throughout the course of a typical day.

The puppy or dog is not showing aggressive-reactive behavior – he/she is simply lacking boundaries, may be over exuberant and appears (to you) to be not ‘listening’ to you.

A Few Examples of Habits to be Addressed…

  1. Puppy is exhibiting normal puppy behavior such as:
    • Biting and nipping your hands, clothing, etc.
    • Puppy is chewing on leashes, boots, etc.
  2. Your puppy or dog is exhibiting some or all of the following:
    1. Begging for food
    2. Counter surfing
    3. If you drop an item on the floor, your dog moves in and
grabs the item before you can pick the object up
    4. Pushing past you through door ways
    5. Passing you as you go down the stairs
    6. Running out an open door without permission
    7. Barking at people or other dogs when they pass by
    8. Mild separation anxiety – dog is not destructive, but is anxious when left alone
    9. And one or more of the behaviors listed below or other similar behavior…
      1. Dog exhibits insecurity, anxiousness – but not aggression, around specific inanimate or animate objects
      2. Demanding – insists on getting attention on demand
      3. Intense pulling on the leash when your dog sees another dog, cat, squirrel, etc. – exhibiting excitement, but not aggressive-reactivity
      4. Impulse to chase bicycles, cars etc.

If this sounds like your puppy or dog behavior modification combined with obedience training is required to build you puppy’s or dog’s confidence the right way and resolve insecure, anxious behavior before escalation to more extreme behavior occurs.

Puppies and dogs that require behavior modification combined with obedience training are within Zone Two of my behavior assessment scale.
